Abstract

In the context of the European FP7 Project iTesla, AIA and Tractebel have performed an integration of their FAST DTS and AGORA tools into a platform that allows for computation, simulation and evaluation of different power system restoration plans considering both static and dynamic security criteria. The tool gives as a result a set of quality metrics for each plan to allow analysts to objectively compare alternative solutions. We report on the work performed on integrating the tools, defining the evaluation methodology and finally using them to assess and improve existing restoration procedures in the context of the pan-European interconnected system. In particular, a comparison between coordinated vs. uncoordinated restoration has been performed using a reference model that is a simplified subset of the European grid. We report the result that coordinated solutions have better quality values than uncoordinated ones on the explored test cases.
