Abstract

The Basilica of St. Ambrose (Sant'Ambrogio), located in Milan, was built by bishop Ambrose in 3&9-386 in a location where many martyrs had been killed during the Roman persecutions. The name of the basilica was originally Basilica Martyrum. The basilica was enlarged during 9th and later during 11th century.
